I have a chance to play with Linksys WAG200G, Wireless-G ADSL Home Gateway, for an hour. Let’s see what I have found.

Unpack : We will see the following items in the box,

โดยส่วนใหญ่แล้วอุปกรณ์ที่ทางผู้ให้บริการ ADSL บ้านเราแถมมาให้นั้นจะเป็นเพียง modem ที่มีช่่องต่อ USB หรือ Ethernet มาให้เท่านั้น ทุกครั้งที่จะใ้ช้ internet ก็ต้อง click start หรือ connect ADSL บน PC ก่อน จึงจะเริ่มใช้งานอินเตอร์เน็ตได้ วันก่อนได้มีโอกาสเล่นกับ Linksys WAG200G หนึ่งคืน เลยเก็บมาฝากนะครับ เจ้าอุปกรณ์กลุ่มนี้จะช่วยให้คุณสามารถเชื่อมต่อ ADSL ได้ตลอดเวลา ไม่ต้องมา click start หรือ connect (แต่มีข้อแม้ว่าคุณต้องเปิดอุปกรณ์นี้ไว้นะครับ :sexy มาดูกันดีกว่าว่าในกล่องเค้าให้อะไรมา

• 1 x Installation CD
• 1 x Ethernet cable (RJ-45)
• 1 x Phone cable (RJ-11)
• (optional) 1 x Micro-filter will provide if you bought this unit in UK.

เจ้ากล่องมหัศจรรย์ขนาดกระเป๋าใส่ CD นี้ทำหน้าที่เป็นทั้ง ADSL router, Switch แล้วก็ยังเป็น Wireless Access Point ด้วยนะครับ เรียกว่า All-in-one เลย

This CD-Pocket sized unit function as

• ADSL router – which can support upto ADSL2+, even there is no ISP in Thailand provide it yet.
• Switch – it provides 4 ethernet ports for you to sharing with more than one pc or laptop.
• Wi-fi access point – this will enable the mobility of your home network. You just need device with wi-fi 802.11b or g adapter.

Installation and configure : There are 2 ways to configure this unit, use installation CD or Manual configure.

การติดตั้งนั้นสามารถทำได้ 2 วิธีนะครับ คือ จะใช้ CD ที่เค้าให้มาซึ่งจะแนะนำวิธีการเป็นขั้นตอนเลยครับ ค่อนข้างง่ายทีเดียว แถมยังมีหลายภาษาให้เลือกด้วย หรือว่าจะใช้วิธี config เองเลยก็ได้ครับ ตามแต่ถนัด แต่ในที่นี้ผมจะเ้น้นแบบ config เองนะครับ เพราะว่าให้คุณๆลุ้นกันเองดีกว่าว่าแบบใช้ CD นั้นจะเป็นอย่างไร

Installation CD

There is installation CD which quite easy for user who do not familiar with technical. It just a step by step and multi-language instruction. I will skip this topic and let you guess what you will see when you buy it.

Manual configure

You can try this shortcut method, here they are

1. Connect your telephone line to Line port of WAG200G.
2. Connect ethernet cable from any one of LAN port on WAG200G to network interface of your PC or laptop.



3. Enable DHCP mode (or Obtain network address automatically) in your PC (or laptop) control panel.
4. Open your internet browser (IE or Firefox) and go to http://192.168.1.1 (the default IP address of WAG200G). Use admin for both username and password. (you can change this later for more security.)
5. The major parameters which we normally configure is
   • ADSL parameter : RFC2516 PPPoE, LLC, VPI, VCI, username and password (VPI/VCI – BuddyBB(THA) use 0/35 and TRUE(THA) 0/100)

   

   • Wireless parameter : SSID (your wi-fi network name), Security (normally, I use WEP with 64bit key)

   

   

   • (optional) – Port forwarding for one who use specific application like Bittorrent.

   

   • Monitoring – There is monitoring page for you to ensure that all connection still working (not down)

   

6. That’s all. Now, internet is always on at your place.:love:

Summary : For anyone who would like to have all-in-one box, for simple home networking. I think this WAG200G is worth for your 3,000 Baht.

สรุปแล้วผมว่าเงินใกล้ๆ 3,000 บาทกับเจ้ากล่อง all-in-one ใบนี้ก็คุ้มนะครับ หากว่าคุณกำลังมองหาอุปกรณ์สำหรับการแชร์อินเตอร์เน็ตในบ้านแบบง่ายๆ แต่หากคุณเป็นนักโหลด BT ตัวยง ผมแนะนำอุปกรณ์กลุ่ม Wi-Fi router ดีกว่าครับ อย่างเช่น ASUS WL500G Premium ซึ่งจะมี BT client ติดตั้งไว้ในตัวอุปกรณ์เลย

P.S. If you are BT-based user, I recommend another Wi-Fi router such as ASUS WL500G-premium which comes with BT client.
